PCMA: Your Post-Vacation Guide To Feeling Better At Work

by David McMillin

Whether you skipped town for a 4th of July weekend getaway or you took your whole family on a week-long retreat to the beach, reality has returned. Your email folder is full of bold, unread messages. Your calendar has meetings scheduled every other hour of the day. You’re back at work, but your mind is miles away from your responsibilities.

While this article won’t be able to transport your body back to vacation, it will provide some recommendations on how to make the return to work easier.

1) Eat these brain- and body-boosting foods.

There’s no easier way to delay your work than taking a snack break. However, snacking doesn’t have to mean setting back your aspirations of feeling better. Ditch the chips for a bag of sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds, which provide an energetic mix of protein, B vitamins and omega fatty acids. If you’re looking for a menu for your mind, go with a banana, which includes the recommended amount of glucose for efficient brain function. You can’t go wrong with walnuts, either, which provide a healthy amount of omega three fatty acids and vitamin E.

2) Stop sitting down.

There’s a reason that the adage “sitting is the new smoking” has been catching on among employees across America: it’s true. When you’re back from vacation, make a conscious effort to reconfigure your work approach to spend less time sitting in a chair staring at a screen and more time on your feet.
