How PCOs and Associations Can Build (and Keep) Positive Relationships

The relationship between a professional congress organizer (PCO) and an association has never been straightforward. There are numerous examples of successful partnerships working for the benefit of not-for-profit membership organisations, but also many examples of broken down relationships.

Then there’s the issue of ownership and vision. Who has overall responsibility for the look and feel of an event and how can a core PCO possible have the same level of passion and commitment as an association?

Ben Hainsworth, Association Executive Direcotor, K.I.T Group GmbH from International Meetings Review on Vimeo.

Ben Hainsworth has been on both sides of the fence, working for a large European medical association and now as executive director for associations at Berlin-based PCO K.I.T. Group

Speaking on a panel at the International and European Associations Congress, in Lausanne, he navigated the murky waters of this relationship and explained why a long-term, flexible relationship based on mutual respect can be a win-win for both parties.

After his presentation, he spoke with AMI editor James Lancaster about the best way to keep the partnership going.
