Melbourne named World’s Best at World Travel Awards
Melbourne received two Australasian titles at the 21st Annual World Travel Awards ceremony in Delhi, India over the weekend.
Melbourne was named Australasia’s Leading Meetings and Conference Destination for the second year and Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) was tapped as Australasia’s Leading Meetings and Conference Centre for the third consecutive year.
“This award is testament to MCB’s recent success in securing some of the world’s largest and most prestigious health-related conferences including the 22nd World Diabetes Congress, the World Congress of Cardiology and the 20th International AIDS Conference," Melbourne Convention Bureau’s (MCB) Chief Executive Officer, Karen Bolinger, said in a statement. MCEC Chief Executive Officer Peter King noted that the Centre recently celebrated its most successful year on record, with six large-scale conferences in the last year alone.
MCEC is part of a ‘Team Melbourne’ approach delivering events for the city, working closely with the Melbourne Convention Bureau, Victorian State Government and other industry partners.
Melbourne and MCEC will now represent Australasia in a final round of voting to decide who will take the World Travel Award’s world awards on November 29 in Morocco.
