Australia: Western Australia Hotels Not Happy with Qantas

The Australian Hotels Association (WA) has slammed a decision by Qantas to drop flights from Melbourne to Perth and downgrade Sydney flights as devastating news for the Western Australian economy and in particular the tourism sector.

“Qantas’ decision to axe flights and reduce capacity on selected routes by downgrading to smaller B737s from A330s dramatically impacts on our ability to attract more tourists and business travellers to Western Australia,” said the Association’s CEO, Bradley Woods.

"Qantas continues to treat Western Australia with contempt by not consulting with the hotel and hospitality industry before it makes such dramatic changes. These changes directly impact on future visitation, hotel room nights, car hire, tours of regional WA, retail and food and beverage spend.

“Qantas has not learnt from its previous mistakes of poor industry stakeholder engagement when it withdrew Perth international services with no consultation.”
