Australia: 2014 a Year to Remember for Cairns
This year has been a memorable one for the Cairns Convention Centre (CCC), and the city of Cairns overall, according to Centre general manager Ross Steele.
“We’ve won some really significant events,” he said. “What I think these events really epitomise is that it doesn’t matter what event comes down to town, we as a destination work together.”
Amongst the notable events cited by Steele were Tourism Australia’s Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) 2014, held in May, and last month’s successful G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting. In another major achievement, he added, the Centre was awarded the biannual AIPC Apex award for the World’s Best Congress Centre by the International Association of Congress Centres (AIPC), which was a “great honour”.
Steele was speaking at the Centre’s annual roadshow event in Sydney yesterday, which saw the Centre and 12 industry partners network with around 70 business events organisers.
“Team Cairns 2014” partners attending the roadshow included Business Events Cairns & Great Barrier Reef, Destination Cairns Marketing, Hilton Cairns, Pullman Cairns International and Sunlover Reef Cruises.
