Appointment gives events key role in Brand Australia

The chief executive of Melbourne Convention and Visitors Bureau (MCVB), Sandra Chipchase, has joined the Brand Australia Advisory Board. The move is a clear recognition by the Australian Government of business potential of meetings and events to the country.

MCBV chair Chris Barlow described the appointment as providing a significant opportunity to utilise business events, such as conventions, exhibitions, corporate meetings and incentive travel programmes, to influence the international business community’s perceptions of Australia.

“Sandra’s appointment to the board illustrates the Federal Government’s recognition of the role that business events play in contributing to Australia’s international reputation as a place to further business, ideas and research through conferences and events,” he said.

“On behalf of the MCVB Board, I congratulate Sandra on this significant appointment.”

Commenting on her appointment, Chipchase said she was honoured to be part of the Advisory Board.

“Business events drive myriad benefits beyond tourism, such as furthering Australia’s skills, knowledge and capabilities in science, medicine, innovation, research, education and business migration,” she explained. “They also add another dimension to people’s perceptions of Australia.

“I am delighted to have the opportunity to contribute to the new Brand Australia Advisory Board.”
