James Latham Receives 2015 JMIC Profile and Power Award

James LathamThe Joint Meetings Industry Council (JMIC) today announced the winner of the 2015 JMIC Profile and Power Award as James Latham, Executive Producer, International Meetings Review. The award was made in recognition of Latham’s ongoing efforts to advance the concept of the Meetings Industry as a global economic generator using the wide range of resources available to him as a leading industry media figure.

“This Award is being made to recognize Latham’s ongoing commitment to driving communications both within the industry and beyond, and in particular advancing and articulating broader industry value propositions in a wide range of coverage over many years”, said JMIC president Philippe Fournier. “Beyond simply reporting industry events and announcements, he shaped editorial content and sought out opinions in support of the broader roles played by business events in knowledge transfer, economic development and government policy and communicated these widely in the industry as a means of creating consensus and giving substance to what were initially general concepts”.

Fournier further noted that in this process, Latham secured the support and participation of virtually all major industry organizations as well as those of countless individual practitioners and products to which he gave voice.

The JMIC Power and Profile Award was established by the council as a way of recognizing individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to advancing the awareness and influence of the Meetings Industry in their respective communities. The winner is selected each year based on criteria which evaluate the efforts of an individual or organization in increasing industry profile and bringing about structural or policy changes that reflect that better appreciation.

JMIC - the Joint Meetings Industry Council - was established in 1978 as a vehicle for creating a forum for the exchange of information and perspectives amongst international associations engaged in various aspects of the Meetings Industry. It has met annually each year and served as a link between its member organizations as well as a means of reviewing industry conditions and strategies.
