Metro Toronto Convention Centre President and CEO Wins PCMA President’s Award

In association news, the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) has awarded its first ever Canada East President's Award to Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) President and CEO Barry Smith. PCMA presented the award at the 2016 PCMA Canadian Innovation Conference in St John's, Newfoundland.

The new award, presented by PCMA Canada East Chapter President Chuck Schouwerwou, honors Barry for going above and beyond for the chapter as an industry role model who epitomizes PCMA values, the organization said in a statement announcing the award. The PCMA Canada East President's Award also recognizes recipients for their integral role on the Chapter President's journey and is awarded solely at the President's discretion. Heidi Welker, vice president of marketing at Freeman Audio Visual Canada, was also honored with the PCMA Canada East President's Award yesterday.

Mia Offers Free Events Industry Intelligence

Finally, the Meetings Industry Association (mia) has announced it is offering non-members the chance to receive data from its intelligence tool, miaTouchstone, for 12 months free of charge. In a statement announcing the decision mia said the move is meant to support the sector following the Brexit vote and Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential elections.

In an offer that will be strictly only available to those who register by December 9, 2016, and will see the usual annual £1,600 fee waived, organizations will be able to monitor monthly how many people attend conferences regionally and nationally, track business volumes such as sales, as well as benchmark their performance against their own competitive set.

miaTouchstone also provides wider economic data to allow the industry to assess and evaluate its direct impact on the sector, mia said.
