Global companies to attend the first outsourcing forum in the Philippines

Top executives from more than 10 countries will attend the upcoming International Outsourcing Summit: Global Market Leaders Addressing Global Issues.

The international meeting is scheduled to take place 20-21 October, with delegates hailing from Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, France, India, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Singapore, South Africa, the UK and the US. They will include senior executives from global business processing organisations (BPOs) and aligned industries, such as telecom and network infrastructure, as well as leading officials of industry associations, according to Jonathan de Luzuriaga, executive director for industry affairs of the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPA/P).

The summit is being organised by BPA/P, with the support of the Philippines Department of Tourism, Department of Trade and Industry, Board of Investments, and the Commission on Information and Communications Technology, and in coordination with strategic marketing communications firm TeamAsia. According de Luzuriaga, its purpose is to examine the changing nature of the industry, identify and address challenges to growth, and build global partnerships to capitalise on increasing opportunities.

“Bringing together industry stakeholders is important to ensuring continuous industry growth, which is why we are organising this groundbreaking summit,” said Oscar Sañez, BPA/P chief executive.

“Because the Philippines is the number two offshore BPO center globally, this is a logical place to meet. As a result, we’re seeing major industry personalities sign on as presenters and panelists, as well as a steady stream of delegate registrations. This is an important conversation, and the most influential people in the industry are anxious to participate.”

Key issues up for discussion at the summit include the changing landscape of the industry on a number of fronts.

“In addition to cost and geography, quality of labor and other issues related to decentralized offshoring are of paramount interest because they potentially provide huge opportunities to emerging offshoring markets. Of course, they also introduce new challenges such as educational capacity and workforce readiness,” said Mr. de Luzuriaga. “This in turn impacts another critical issue, the nature of work being outsourced. McKinsey & Company projects a profound shift to higher value services – or Knowledge Process Outsourcing – over the next five years.”

Meanwhile, Sañez believes the summit provides the opportunity to demonstrate the Philippines’ new position of influence on the industry. “The International Outsourcing Summit allows us to publicly stake out our leadership role in the industry, and to demonstrate our influence on its development,” he said.
