Asian destination doubles its stand space at CIBTM to show it means MICE business

In a concerted bid to tell the world what it has to offer from a meetings and events perspective, the Chinese special administrative region of Macau is to create it’s biggest ever presence at this year’s China Incentive Business Travel and Meetings Exhibition (CIBTM).

The event takes placew from 8-10 September 2009 at the China National Convention Center (CNCC) in Beijing, and Macau’s stand will cover more than 200 square metres – double what was taken at the previous edition of the event.

This year is the Macau Government Tourist Office’s (MGTO) second time exhibiting at CIBTM, and its exhibiting partners have grown three fold, increasing from eight to 24.

“The reason for our expansion is largely due to the introduction of the Industry Partner Programme which was launched in October last year,” explained a spokesperson for the Macau Business Tourism Office (MGTO).
“The aim is to facilitate the packaging of Macau as a MICE destination, and most importantly, to showcase the rapid development of many new exciting venues and facilities in Macau in recent years.

“CIBTM is also an important platform for Macau, as we have increased our promotional efforts in priority markets such as mainland China. We believe that through the network of CIBTM, we can source potential high quality buyers which in turn will help strengthen Macau’s position as one of Asia’s premier MICE destinations.”
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau special administrative region, MGTO launched the Strategic MICE Market Stimulation Programme in May, which forms part of the biggest ever promotion by MGTO at CIBTM 2009. The programme is to assist business tourism partners and maintain the momentum and competitive edge Macau has been building as an international destination.

“Macau’s continuous presence at the show demonstrates its rise as a destination for the meetings and incentive industry,” said CIBTM exhibition director Graeme Barnett.

“We are excited that it is back and has increased its stand space. Its attendance will certainly add to the success of CIBTM 2009. Visitors and hosted buyers will undoubtedly benefit from visiting the Macau stand at the exhibition.”
