PCMA Education Foundation launches 2009 Silent Auction

Bids can now be placed online for this year’s Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) Education Foundation, and will be accepted until the auction closes onsite at the Foundation’s Dinner Celebrating Professional Achievement on 15 April in Washington DC.

The Foundation supports the mission of the PCMA through fundraising and grant giving focused on education and research that will benefit the meetings and conventions industry. Established in 1985, it supports educational programmes to improve professionalism in the meetings industry and to provide a university-level meeting management curriculum.

The Foundation provides educational programmes for meeting managers, hotels, convention and visitors bureaus, and other members of the meetings industry. It also conducts ongoing research of industry issues and concerns. The Foundation continually designs and creates new programmes to encourage the highest levels of professionalism in the meetings industry.

“The Silent Auction plays a huge role in raising the funds necessary for the Foundation to continue its mission,” said 2009 PCMA Education Foundation chair Michael L Payne. “And with all of the sensational packages up for bid this year, the Foundation is poised to have its best fundraising year yet. These funds truly enable the Foundation to continue to give back and advance the meetings industry.”

With packages ranging in price from $200 to $10,000 plus, this year’s auction is geared towards a diverse set of bidders. Examples of the many packages up for auction include: a four-night break in Vancouver; a three-night stay in San Franciso; a 50” LG Plasma TV; two roundtrip on Delta Air Lines business class, and a five night stay at any of the Hyatt Hotels & Resorts’ worldwide properties; and two nights each at InterContinental hotels in Prague, Vienna and Budapest with breakfast, first class train tickets, and more.

“I couldn’t be more pleased with the packages that we have pulled together this year,” said Liz Erikson, chair of the 2009 Silent Auction Task Force. “With such a diverse selection of packages, this year’s auction will generate significant dollars and help the Foundation surpass many of the goals set for 2009.”

New for this year, the auction’s Buy It Now feature will enable bidders to purchase packages immediately online at a designated price until 20 March. What’s more, participants can now go online and place bids on packages in $100 increments until the auction’s close. On the night of the Foundation Dinner, the silent auction will continue onsite, engaging attendees in fun, competitive bidding.
