Americas: Your Meeting History Is Your Credit Score

While planners are not required to collect data on how their meeting, convention, or event performs in a destination, those who are diligent about gathering numbers from all the vendors they use and creating a reliable meetings history make their jobs much easier when coordinating future events.

In fact, the quality of a meeting’s historical data also makes it easier for a convention and visitors bureau to help a group secure the space, dates, and rates it needs at hotels and meeting facilities in a destination. And with the current seller’s market, planners should make use of such a partnership as much as possible.

“In this competitive environment, the more complete the information a planner sends to CVBs and hoteliers, the better the response will be to that lead,” says Christine Shimasaki, managing director of empowerMINT.com, a meeting-planning tool offered by Destination Marketing Association International that helps planners match their meetings to destinations and properties.
