Americas: Sign of the Times: CES Institutes New Security Rules

CES, the Consumer Technology Association’s giant annual trade show, opens its 2016 run in Las Vegas January 6. The event is known as a premier showcase for new technologies, but organizers will also be introducing the expected 150,000 attendees, 3,600 exhibiting companies, and 6,000 media representatives to a new level of conference security.

ces logoNew procedures, including bag checks, body screening, and increased security personnel, have been instituted, “due to recent global tragedies,” CTA says. “We want you to have a safe CES experience. We are implementing these enhanced measures with the goal of maintaining the safety of all of our guests—attendees, exhibitors, members of the media—and show personnel while creating as little inconvenience as possible.” CTA noted that the changes are not in reaction to specific risks. “There are no known credible threats against CES 2016. We remain in close consultation with the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI, and local law enforcement officials.”
