Americas: Panel to Pharma Planners--Your Job is Not to Plan Meetings

The opening session at the 2015 Pharma Forum conference, held last week at the Gaylord National in National Harbor, Md., took a different tack from past years’ openers. Instead of focusing on the latest in rules and regulations life-sciences meeting planners must adhere to, co-organizers MeetingsNet and CBI invited a panel of meeting professionals from outside the pharma industry to bring some fresh ideas to pharma planning.

Led by Linda McNairy, head of business development, North American meetings with American Express Global Business Travel, a panel that included Paul Salinger, vice president, corporate marketing, Oracle, and past president, Green Meeting Industry Council; Scott Schenker, general manager, events and production studio, Microsoft Marketing; and Liz Lathan, CMP, director, event & experiential marketing, Dell; focused on changes in the meetings realm. These are their top three areas of focus:

• The audience, which is increasingly multigenerational, multicultural, short of attention span, and inclusive of those who have disabilities and special needs. They now need to be part of the process of content creation, not just passive learners.
