Legacy thinking is thinking from the past. Everyone has legacy thinking: We learn something or are told that something is the way it is and that becomes a locked-down fact. “Dad always told me” or “My business mentor told me in 1993” are the type of thoughts that we think of and act on as the truth. But if you don’t analyze these thoughts through the filter of the reality of 2014—of now—they may well be holding back your ability to see the present clearly.
It is clear that most developed countries of the world, including the United States and certainly including Washington, D.C., have powered into the 21st century thinking 20th-century thoughts.
