Americas: How to Win the Meeting Budget Battle

There’s been a lot of conversation this year around the disparity between meeting budget allocations and the escalating costs of holding a meeting. For most, meeting budgets have not increased in recent years beyond the paltry 1.5 percent to 1.7 percent cost of living adjustments (COLA); for some, budgets are remaining flat, or even decreasing.

So how do you turn it around? How do you persuade your organization to increase meeting budgets in line with the changing marketplace? I believe it all starts with communication, and I’ve developed a roadmap that can be used to convince budget owners and influencers to increase 2016 meeting budgets. The goal is to gain approval for a budget that will truly support the realistic cost of the meeting portfolio—and not one that requires significant program cuts or reduced attendance to stay in the black.
