Americas: Get Ready to Rally for Meetings

The Meetings Mean Business Coalition recently announced the first-ever North American Meetings Industry Day, set for April 16. As co-chair of the MMBC, I’m very proud to see this come together—a day for us to rally in celebration of the incredible value our industry brings to the economy.

Some people may think, “Our industry is doing well. It’s rebounding. We don’t need to worry about proving our value.” While it’s true our industry is back at or, in some cases, above pre-recession levels, our strategy with the MMBC and NAMID is to provide an insurance policy against the next challenge we will face—the next GSA “muffin-gate” scandal.

Just this month, our industry drew criticism from Michael Wolff at USAToday.com when he referred to conferences as “parties.” This type of rhetoric is damaging to our industry, which is why it is essential for us to come together with one voice to prove the value of meetings.
