Americas: Exhibition Advocates Share Stats, Concerns on Capitol Hill

Freeman’s Christie Greenleaf, senior vice president of sales and industry relations, was among the 112 exhibition industry professionals from 19 states who traveled to Washington, D.C., June 9 to impress upon policymakers the importance of exhibitions to the economy, and to discuss legislation and policies affecting the industry.

Exhibitions Day resulted in 96 appointments with policymakers on Capital Hill, including one with Sen. Dean Heller (sixth from left).

Just back from Capital Hill, Greenleaf spoke to MeetingsNet about the goals of the second annual Exhibitions Day event, organized by the Exhibitions Mean Business campaign, and to share her perspectives on the experience.

“It’s kind of overwhelming to see how government works, how legislators really do listen to their constituents, and how smart and interested the staffers are,” she said. What you really learn, she said, is that your lobbying efforts need to be frequent and ongoing, and they need to come from constituents.

Overall, Exhibitions Day resulted in 96 appointments with lawmakers and their staffs, and Greenleaf’s team had six meetings with policymakers from three destinations: Chicago, Las Vegas, and New York
