Americas: Cuba: When Will It Be Group-Ready?

For the first time in 50 years, a cruise ship has been approved to travel from the U.S. to Cuba, another sign of the fast pace of change in U.S.–Cuba relations and the opening of the island nation to U.S. travelers.

cubaCarnival Corp., through its newest brand Fathom, has been approved to begin routes between Miami and three Cuban ports: Havana, in the northwest part of the island; Santiago de Cuba, in the southwest, and Cienfuegos, on the south coast. The seven-day itineraries on the 704-passenger MV Adonia, which begin May 1, will feature Cuban-inspired food, music, and films; an orientation to Cuba's history, customs, and culture; and an option to take conversational Spanish classes.
