Americas: A Common Ground for Cultural Understanding

How was Rotterdam? I’ve been asked that question quite a few times since the SITE Global Conference 2014 concluded in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in mid-November. Depending on who was asking, the intent of the question varied.

My typical answer has been, overall it was great. Rotterdam offered some unique experiential learning adventures, the Mainport Hotel was a fitting venue, and the feedback on the education content has been very positive. However, reflecting more deeply I realize that I can only answer from my own point of view based on personal experience. What I can share is what I observed.

The conference gathered 210 attendees from nearly 40 countries comprised of a diverse group of incentive travel professionals. Despite the generational, cultural, and geographic differences I observed, as human beings, we are more similar than different. We like to eat different foods—though I think everyone there drank tea or coffee, or beer or wine.
