Americas: Oneworld Air Alliance Drops Group Booking Fees
Global airline alliance oneworld has announced an upgrade to its meeting and convention program, oneworld events, dropping booking fees and allowing attendees to book through travel agencies.
Oneworld, a 15-airline alliance that includes American Airlines and British Airways and currently flies to 997 destinations around the globe, launched the program 18 months ago to encourage groups to make oneworld their preferred air partner.
Groups that use oneworld events need to designate and promote oneworld as their official carrier alliance and have a minimum of 100 participants flying from at least two regions of the world. In return, travelers get fare discounts, while the planners earn volume rewards and have access to a real-time dashboard to track air booking activity. The rewards a percentage of the attendees’ fares that are banked as “travel credits.” The credits can be exchanged, dollar for dollar, to buy flights on oneworld airlines. The travel credits work like cash (no points, no blackout dates) but they expire after 12 months.
