Air Travel: Heathrow's New Luggage Service, New Flights From Norwegian and Delta

From a new luggage service to added flights from Norwegian and Delta, here’s the latest air travel news from around the globe.

Portr Launches AirPortr Baggage Delivery Service

The London based travel-technology company, Portr, has launched its new on-demand baggage delivery service, AirPortr, as an official service at London Heathrow Airport.

AirPortr delivers passenger bags within hours between London and London Heathrow Airport, providing customers with same-day, on demand, bag free travel. The service can be pre-booked or scheduled on the day of travel from any device, and bags are dropped off in Heathrow before being transported by an AirPortr driver to its London destination.

Alternatively, bags are collected from any London location and delivered to Heathrow at a time suited by the customer before their scheduled flight.

The service aims to enable passengers to travel more efficiently and make the most of their trip without their luggage in tow for a lighter, quicker and stress free experience.

The service is priced specifically for all travelers and trip types. For example, two bags of any size or weight, delivered between Heathrow and central London costs £30.

AirPortr originally launched in May 2014 in London City Airport and Gatwick in July 2015. Prices range from £15 to Airport addresses and local hotels, £25 to central London and £35 to outer London. Each additional bag costs £5 (with no size or weight restrictions).

Additionally, all luggage can be GPS tracked in real time from the user’s smartphone, along with their AirPortr driver.

New Flight Routes From Norwegian

Norwegian Air is adding new flights between Oakland International Airport and London beginning May 12, 2016. The new flight will occur three times a week, joining the other services out of Oakland that fly to Olso, Norway and Stockholm, Sweden

Norwegian will also increase the amount of flights from Los Angeles International Airport to London Gatwick in 2016 by adding a fourth weekly flight on May 10. There are seven routes passengers can choose from when flying out of Oakland and Los Angeles.

In addition, a new route from Boston Logan International Airport to London Gatwick will launch on March 27, 2016, two months earlier than planned. Then the flight route to Oslo will launch on April 2. Norwegian has also added another flight from Boston to London, making it five weekly flights until May 11.

Norwegian currently offers 35 nonstop routes from the U.S. to London, Scandinavia and the Caribbean.

Delta and KLM Join Forces With Jet Airways

Delta Air Lines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines have announced a new codeshare agreement with India's Jet Airways in an effort to provide customers with new travel options when flying from Europe and the United States via Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to India.

The agreement, set to go into effect March 27, 2016, is still subject to government approval. If all goes as planned, Delta and KLM customers flying from Europe and the United States to Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport will be able to connect onto Jet Airways' new daily flights to New Delhi and Mumbai, with onward destinations including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Goa, Kolkata and Amritsar in India; Dhaka, Bangladesh; Kathmandu, Nepal; and Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The Delta and KLM codeshare aims to provide customers with coordinated customer service, a single ticket and through-check in of bags to their final destinations. In addition, Delta SkyMiles and KLM Flying Blue members will be eligible to earn and redeem frequent flyer miles on codeshare routes operated by Jet Airways.

Jet Airways will also place its code on flights between Amsterdam and 11 destinations in the United States and Canada operated by Delta and KLM. Destinations will include New York-JFK, Newark, Chicago, Washington D.C., Houston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Calgary, Montreal and Edmonton

Additionally, Jet Airways will codeshare on KLM-operated flights to 30 European destinations beyond Amsterdam including Madrid, Zurich and Milan. KLM's service between Amsterdam and New Delhi forms part of this agreement.
